Presentation:
The Mayor welcomed with great pleasure the students and their chaperons who represented Hurstville City Council at the 1997 Greenleaves Mission and at the Shiroishi Goodwill Games, saying he believed that the importance and value of the communication and exchange could not be overstated; the people of Shiroishi as do we in Hurstville perceive the children as the real future and it was through exchanges such as these that understanding would be built. The Mayor then presented each of the students and chaperons with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of their participation, following which Mr Booth and Mrs Lucas thanked the Councils of Shiroishi and Hurstville for the opportunity to participate in the Goodwill Games and Greenleaves Mission on behalf of the students; Mrs Lucas congratulated the Councils on promoting international goodwill and understanding, stressing the educational value of the exchanges, to which end she had prepared a submission she proposed passing to Council's Liaison Officer, Mrs Sue Atkinson, in the hope that a wider circle of people could share in their experiences -
