THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HURSTVILLE

MAYORAL MINUTE

It is with great sorrow that I inform the Council of the death of Mrs Faye Therese Lynch, dearly loved wife of Councillor Merv Lynch of 5 Apsley Street, Penshurst, who passed away on July 12 1997 aged 60 years. The news of her untimely death came as a great shock. Her departure was sudden, unexpected and particularly distressing. Nothing I can write in this Mayoral Minute could express the grief and sorrow we all feel at Faye's loss.

The Late Mrs Lynch's Funeral Service was held at St Declan's Church, Penshurst, where she attended Primary School. Mrs Lynch's senior schooling was conducted at St Vincent's College.

Mrs Lynch was Mayoress of Hurstville during Councillor Lynch's term as Mayor from September 1991 to September 1992. Faye was very involved with Council activities during this time and, as was her way, gave great support to Merv both during his term as Mayor and throughout their married life together.

Faye devoted her time and energy to many areas, as she was very much a 'people-person'. She worked for Sugerman's Pathology, Hurstville, for thirty years, enjoying the contact she had each day with regular clients and members of staff. Faye had a great love of all sport, but particularly Netball, and was a very well respected coach; she was, in fact, a Life Member of the St George District Netball Association and served on its Executive for many years. Faye was well-known as a culinary 'artiste', and did not need too much of an excuse to throw a party for relatives and friends at the family home where she was raised. As was said in the eulogy: "No one ever said 'No' to one of Faye's parties".

She enjoyed immensely the time spent with her family. She was a treasured and devoted wife to Merv, a loving and loved mother to Maria, David and Glenda, special mother-in-law of Jim, and an adored grandmother to Rebecca, Angus and Liam.

Those who knew Faye loved her. She radiated great warmth and personal charm; people were drawn to her irresistibly. Faye lived her life as we all should ... with great faith, integrity, honesty, and with a great love and concern for all. She is deep in our hearts, and will continue there, warmly, as long as we live.

We all have deep and abiding personal memories of Faye and her wonderful, vibrant approach to life. She was a true lady, and a great friend. These memories will live with us forever.

Council was represented at the service by the Mayor, current and former Councillors, the General Manager, current and former members of staff, the relatives and the many friends of the Lynch family, which included State and Federal Parliamentarians, Executive and members of the Illawarra Catholic Club, representatives of Netball associations and many other sporting clubs. Following the service, the cortege departed for the Woronora Cemetery.

Merv, the thoughts and prayers of each of us are with you and your family at this dreadful time.

Councillor Peter Olah JP
Mayor of Hurstville
