ITEM 05.02 COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS

COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the information be noted.


GENERAL BUSINESS

1. THAT Chief Inspector Bob May be requested to advise the Manager - Divisional Administration, Development & Health of the NSW Police's user pays policy and the likelihood that the current policy be extended to permit local Councils to obtain access to Police services to target specific issues of safety and litter or like duties as the case may be with their local government area.

2. THAT Council write to the NSW Police Commissioner, after receiving Chief Inspector May's advice, seeking that Council be given access to user pays Police patrols within the Hurstville City Area to address safety and anti-litter concerns of Council.

3. THAT representations be made to the NSW Police Commissioner that Council be granted authority to enforce SEINS infringements with respect to street parking within Hurstville City.

4. THAT the Divisional Manager - Development & Health include in the budget provision for the employment of two additional Law Enforcement Officers to carry out duties relating to safety and anti-litter with the Hurstville City area.

5. THAT representations be made to all Local Members raising concern at the low penalties being awarded by the judiciary in relation to criminal and other offences and that minimum penalties should be enacted to support Police and Local Government action against anti-social acts and environmental offences.
