MATTERS OF PRIVILEGE

Matter of Urgency -
Second Sydney Airport Proposal

Councillor Sansom commented on the inadequate and ad hoc consultation process outlined at a recent meeting of the Georges River Catchment Management Committee (GRCMC) by the Consultants RUST PPK who were conducting the Environmental Impact Statement into Holsworthy as the site of the second Sydney Airport. Councillor Sansom had learned at the meeting that the Oatley Flora & Fauna Society and Lugarno Progress Society were to take part in a 1-day Workshop but that the National Trust and a number of other key groups had not been considered. He had been assured that Councils would be approached for their views; however, he had been left with the impression that the process was very arbitrary and was astounded to learn that despite the impact on the Hurstville area of an airport at Holsworthy and the detailed submission on the terms of reference Council had presented, Hurstville was not one of the areas where a mobile information centre would be located. In view of the urgency of the matter, Councillor Sansom sought permission to move a motion in this regard. Further that Council obtain copies of a poster prepared by the GRCMC showing an example of the unspoiled beauty of the area threatened by the proposed airport for display in Council premises.
